Eight gold medals. It all started with a tiny seven year old with extreme ADHD. When he walked into the North Baltimore Aquatic Club, nobody there expected him to amount to much. By the age of ten, he had set a national record in his age group. At age fifteen, he competed in the Sydney Olympics. In his hometown Maryland club, Michael Phelps developed the skills, confidence and character that it took to propel him to the pinnacle of his sport.
Duluth has such an opportunity for young athletes: Northshore Swim Club. NSSC coaches all levels of competitive swimming and places special emphasis on young swimmers eager to give the sport a try. By providing a program that is tailored to fit the needs of each individual swimmer, NSSC is able to maintain an atmosphere that is relaxed and friendly for all swimmers. Confidence, character and fun; the qualities that enabled Michael Phelps to earn eight gold medals are the same qualities NSSC encourages in its swimmers.
